Hi.

I’ve been writing software professionally for about ten years. Most of this has been in Ruby, but I’ve done substantial work in Scala, C, and Javascript as well. The software that I’ve built and improved is used by millions of people.

Work

I’m currently working on a cross-platform desktop VPN client at a large VPN provider. This entails things like:

• Packaging and distributing a desktop application
• Reliably manipulating network configurations across many operating systems
• Securely running privileged code
• Participating in the design of the user interface
• Maintaining a reliable build process for the client and dependencies

Previously I spent 5 years at GitHub working on a variety of things including:

• Chat-based deployment
• Pull Requests, including the Revert Button and Branch Delete Button
• Reading, caching, and writing Git repository data
• gPanel, GitHub’s datacenter management tool
• Managing GitHub’s continuous integration system
• Flaky test detection
• Spam mitigation

In past lives I’ve also worked on a social network, a cloud management product, at a datacenter, and in food distribution. I’ve also done some consulting and made contributions to the open source projects EventMachine and Rubinius.
